ConCERNed about the Kings of Leon
source: newsSweet peas and pods,
It’s papa peacock here. Been a while but so has CERN! Martin’s very into anything of scientific gravitas (personally I think this is in part to give him the upper hand in any trivial conversation and also because he is too clever to be a bassist in a pop band – oh well, deal with it! ;-)
No doubt you all know far more about this 27KM recreation of the big bang that will be occurring tomorrow in Switzerland. Very exciting to think of man boldly going where we’ve not gone before. Still, I’m a little disconCERNted that if going
anything’s going to open the gates of hell, like something out of an abismal video-game to motion picture transition, then this is it. Thankfully I’ve got bed sheets and I’m particularly adept at hiding beneath them. It’s a little odd for us now having been touring for months before, during and after people have heard of us and then doing the summer of festivals to now having a few weeks to write for that EASY SECOND album … time will tell! Because we’ve not done this before it’s all unchartered territory and when you get used to being on tour you’re then back to where you started: in the recording studio. Though we’ve got a UK tour (OcTOURber as you will hopefully come and see for your good selves), a Euro (though largely French if we’re honest!) tour and a couple of dates in Japan (Tokyo and Osaka) before we’ll be in the studio.
Before we were signed I used to get so mad at bands I loved for not bringing out new material quicker. I’d assume they were all largin’ it on their yachts and the like. Now that I’m sat here typing this in a mouse-infested, post-student digs, with one bathroom for 6 of us I’m realising that bands just get moved around so much that they don’t get much time to write. Boo hoo. We’ll get over it!
However busy we are there’s always busier. Met up with The Wombats at Summersonic in Japan and Andy (drummer) was saying how they’d been on tour for 4 and a half months non-stop, and they’re now off to tour America in a tiny little van cos of slashed budgets. Hard-core. I’ll stick to that yacht I haven’t got I think. Ah, yes the yacht of the imagination.Saw on something on the web that I’d apparently slated the Kings of Leon! Crikey I should like to think that I’d at least have the gaul to pick on someone my own size, like George Samson. Though admittedly when he sends me off running and sobbing I’ll look even more the fool. Anyway, there was apparently something I’d said at T in the Park about Kings of Leon not being very good live and needing to learn dances, cos we’ve got some dances! ... ?
I think KOL are very skilled at what they do and one of the best rnr bands around today. They stand pretty motionless and play their songs – that’s their cool schtick. We’re not of that lineage musically and it lends itself more to getting more performative. I told the interviewer: “we’ve got dancers”. Love how that ended up as “the KOL should learn to dance cos we’ve got dances”. Love it!Ah the sweet misuse of an online platform to set the record straight; but does anyone, least of all the Kings of Leon, care or are they even reading? Probably not. Still, it’s off my chest.
Thanks for being you, or you, or you …
Bags of “mmmmmmm”,
Irwin

This is that environmental film festival I’ve been harping on about. It’s 2 days (18th -19th October : so, in less than 6 weeks!) of films, talks, campaign stalls and questions answered.
It’s happening at the No 3 cinema in Portsmouth – an independent cinema in the Central Library.
We’re not making any money from this – it’s to raise awareness of climate change and what we can do about it.
Please please please: – come along – tell everyone you know, and bring them too – PASS THIS ON!
Thanking you muchly and hoping to see you all there,
